I’ve always been somebody who loves studying, particularly when I take on a new area or role in church. When I became a lay minister over 10 years ago I began to be interested in how we use worship for formation. But it was when I was studying church history that I started to become particularly interested in the Christian year. Especially after studying a module on monasticism. What is the Christian year? How can we use the Christian year in our worship? Are we getting to a point where in many of our churches we are starting to simplify the Christian year, dismissing some of the seasonal material or festivals that happen? These are types of questions that have piqued my interest and have spurned me on to begin to study this in a little bit more detail. As I began training for ordination, this interest increased, as I realised that not only will I be leading or preaching at the odd service, but eventually I will be having to decide how we structure the teaching across the whole Christian year.
So this website is part of my learning journey; where over the next number of years, as I move from season to season, I want to think through how I can use the different seasons to help us all become better formed as disciples of Christ. The blogs and information are my journal of thoughts, ideas, and resources, which will hopefully build up over time. And hopefully they may be of some use to others.
